The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

When I began my Penn State career at the Pottsville/Schuylkill Campus in the Fall of 1961 I assumed, as do most Freshmen, that I would proceed to graduation...four years later. I was wrong. I left Penn State after completing my second year. It was an action packed two years and I have to say I truly enjoyed it and met some wonderful Professors and fellow students. The working world called. (I was an idiot.) I got a job at a small newspaper in Shenandoah, PA., what I really wanted to do, I thought. Then, I took a 10 week hiatus to attend a Summer Session at Main. When I returned the job was gone. The Boss hired his daughter. Humpf. Luckily I got a better job at a bigger newspaper in Allentown, PA., The Evening Chronicle, part of the Morning Call. I loved it. Then I got married. That brought me back to my home in Schuylkill County. My father started a truck magazine...a venue for advertising used and new equipment: TNT Magazine. He enlisted me to help, and a few years later my husband joined us. The world changed. I never stopped regretting not getting my degree, Neither did my dear Mom. Late in 1990 I visited the Penn State Campus at High Acres, Hazleton. I signed up for "just a few classes." In 1991 my mom died, knowing I was back in school. In 1994 I got my degree. Besides my husband and kids, it was the best thing I ever did.
